Arthur Shahnazaryan

He was born in 1958 in Lori.

In 1981 he entered the composition and orchestral departments of the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory.

In 1986 he graduated from three faculties: composition, conducting and musicology. While studying, he taught at a music school, worked at the Folk Art Method Center of the RA Ministry of Culture, as a senior researcher. He worked at the State Conservatory as a head of the folklore classroom. Artur Shahnazaryan taught at the Mkhitar Sebastiatsi Educational Complex and headed the local music school.

In 1992-1994 he was in the United States, implementing various cultural programs with the Armenian community.

In 1995 he worked in the RA Ministry of Education as the head of the program-methodological department.

In 1998 he worked in the RA Ministry of Culture as the head of the "Preservation, Development and Dissemination" Department of National Culture.

From 2000 he worked intermittently as the director of music programs at the school, then became a member of the board of trustees of the "Dar" Foundation.

Arthur Shahnazaryan is a member of the board of the Union of Composers of Armenia. Twice a year, in autumn and spring, he organizes concert series, where the works of modern Armenian composers and young people are performed.

2007-2010 he mainly worked on the Armenian epos. This monumental musical work "David of Sassoun" consists of 110 pieces where old national instruments are used. Most of them were restored and made for the first time according to medieval manuscripts and other sources.
